Lodgify vs Bookalet for Glamping Sites in the UK

A plain comparison of two booking tools for a small glamping site, covering cost, commission, calendar sync and websites.

By Rory Murphy7 min read

You’re a glamping owner with a spreadsheet, two Airbnb calendars and a growing fear of double bookings. Lodgify vs Bookalet is a common choice, because both promise to fix that, and both can give you a way to take direct bookings. Lodgify is the bigger, more all-in-one tool with a website builder and channel manager. Bookalet is a simpler UK booking manager priced as a yearly subscription, so it usually costs less to start.

For one to five units, either can work. The choice comes down to how much you want in one box and how you feel about a booking fee. It also depends on whether you want the site itself to look like your place and not like a template.

The two tools differ most on price model, size and how much of the website they handle for you. Here is the short version.

Mid plan Professional from $40 a month Pro at £159 a year

Prices come from Lodgify’s own comparison page and Capterra’s listings. Review sites don’t all agree on exact figures, so treat the table as a guide and confirm on each provider’s pricing page.

What Lodgify and Bookalet cost

Bookalet is cheaper on headline price, and Lodgify costs more because it bundles more. Capterra lists Bookalet’s Lite plan at £115 and its Pro plan at £159, both billed yearly.

Lodgify prices by the month. Its own comparison page shows Starter from $16 a month on annual billing, Professional from $40 and Ultimate from $59. Lodgify prices in dollars on those listings, so your bill in pounds will move with the exchange rate.

For a hut or pod business, the headline price is only part of it. Add the things you’ll actually need.

  • A website, if the plan doesn’t include one you’re happy with.
  • A channel manager for Airbnb, Booking.com and the rest.
  • Card payment charges from the payment provider.
  • Your time setting up rates for each unit.

Commission and booking fees

Lodgify’s Starter plan takes a 1.9% booking fee on direct bookings, while its Professional and Ultimate plans take none. Bookalet is priced as a yearly subscription rather than a fee on each booking.

On a £600 weekend, 1.9% is £11.40. That’s small next to a listing site’s commission, but it adds up over a busy summer. If you expect a lot of direct bookings, the plan with no booking fee can work out cheaper even though the monthly price is higher.

Card payments are separate. On either tool, the payment provider charges its own fee on each card payment, and that isn’t the same as a booking fee.

Here’s the bit that makes direct bookings worth the effort. Even when a guest finds you on Canopy & Stars or CoolStays, many go on to search for your own site, hoping for a better deal or because they know you keep more of the money. If that search lands on nothing, or on a site that looks half finished, you can lose the booking.

Channel manager and calendar sync

Lodgify lists a channel manager that connects to Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, Expedia and Google Vacation Rentals. Bookalet lists channel management as a feature, but its public listings don’t make clear which platforms it connects to.

That difference matters if you sell on a UK directory as well as the big names. Canopy & Stars and CoolStays are common for glamping, and not every channel manager supports them. Ask each provider, in writing, whether your exact platforms are covered before you pay.

Websites and booking pages

Lodgify includes a website builder, so you can have a booking site without a separate designer. Reviewers generally find it easy to use, though some call it decent but basic. Bookalet is mainly booking management, with tools to take bookings on your own site.

A glamping booking page has a particular job. Guests want to see the unit, check dates on their phone, understand midweek and weekend prices and minimum stays, and ask a question if something is unclear. Template builders can do that, but they tend to treat every property the same.

For comparison, the booking page on Millie the Hut, a shepherd’s hut site we built, puts an availability calendar, a short enquiry form and a seasonal rate card on one page. It brought 42 direct bookings in its first year, saving the owners over £3,000 in commission.

UK support

Both tools sell into the UK, but they come from different places. Lodgify was founded in 2012 and is based in Barcelona. GetApp lists its customer support at 4.6 out of 5 across around 1,300 reviews.

Bookalet lists the UK as its market, and one reviewer on Capterra praises its support team. Where the support team is based isn’t published in the sources I found. If you want to talk to someone in your own time zone, ask each provider before you commit.

The best fit for a glamping site

Lodgify suits owners who want one tool for the site, the bookings and the channels. Bookalet suits owners who want a lower yearly cost and mainly need to manage bookings and take them on a site of their own.

Both can handle a small glamping site. Neither will rank your pages on Google or make a site feel like your place. That’s the work of the site itself.

When a custom site fits better

A tool is not the same as a website. If you’ve outgrown a builder, or you want the site to look like your huts and show up when guests search, a custom site with your booking system embedded gives you both. You keep the booking tool you like, and the site around it is yours.

That’s how our Lodgify integration works. You get a custom website with Lodgify bookings behind it.

FAQs

Is Bookalet cheaper than Lodgify?

On headline price, usually yes. Capterra lists Bookalet plans at £115 and £159 a year, billed yearly, while Lodgify’s own comparison page starts at $16 a month on annual billing. Add up the extras you need, such as a website, channel manager and card payments, before you compare the totals.

Do Lodgify and Bookalet take commission on direct bookings?

Lodgify’s Starter plan carries a 1.9% booking fee, according to its own comparison page, and Professional and Ultimate have none. Bookalet is priced as an annual subscription rather than a booking fee. On either, card payments also carry the payment provider’s own charges.

Can I sync my glamping calendar with Airbnb and Booking.com?

Lodgify lists a channel manager that connects to Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, Expedia and Google Vacation Rentals. Bookalet lists channel management as a feature, but which platforms it connects to isn’t clear from its public listings. Ask each provider to confirm your exact platforms before you sign up.

Can I use Lodgify or Bookalet on my own website?

Yes, both are built around taking direct bookings, and you can use their booking tools with a site you already have. A designer can also embed a booking calendar and enquiry form inside a custom site, so the look and the content stay yours.
