Glamping Statistics UK for Owners and Investors

The UK glamping numbers that are actually published, who publishes them, and what they mean for your bookings.

By Rory Murphy6 min read

You’ve been asked for glamping numbers, maybe by a lender, a journalist or your own business plan. Finding figures you can actually cite takes longer than you’d expect.

We haven’t found a single official source of UK glamping statistics. The numbers come from a handful of market reports, booking platforms and tourism boards, and each defines glamping a little differently. This page lists what’s published, who publishes it, and what the figures mean for an owner trying to win direct bookings.

Where UK glamping statistics come from

Most of the published glamping statistics we found come from the five sources below. Each covers something different, so use the one that matches the claim you’re making.

Source What it covers
Canopy & Stars, Glamping Market Report 2026 An industry overview, drawing on the company’s own booking data
Grand View Research, UK Glamping Market report Market size, growth, accommodation type and age group
Group Accommodation, UK glamping market article Booking lead times, including last-minute stays
Discover Northern Ireland, glamping accommodation page The types of glamping stay offered in Northern Ireland and who they suit
data.gov.uk, Northern Ireland sites dataset Location of camping, glamping and caravan sites in Northern Ireland

Campsites.co.uk also publishes a camping statistics page, which is useful context but covers camping, not glamping. Keep the two apart when you quote it.

The size of the UK glamping market

Grand View Research publishes a UK glamping market report, with the page last updated in February 2024. It estimates the market at US$209.8 million in 2023 and forecasts US$449.5 million by 2030, a compound annual growth rate of 10.7% from 2024 to 2030. It also splits the market by accommodation type and age group.

That is a forecast from a single report. Grand View Research’s separate Horizon statistics page shows a later estimate of US$389.5 million for 2025 and 8.2% annual growth to 2033, so check which figure you are quoting and name it.

Who books glamping in the UK

Glamping appeals to a wide mix of guests. Discover Northern Ireland, the region’s official tourism site, presents its glamping stays as suited to couples, families and weekends with friends.

That matters if your site only speaks to couples. A page that also covers families with kids or a group of friends, and says what each gets, answers more of the questions guests have before they book.

On age, the Grand View Research report says travellers aged 18 to 32 led the UK market with a 45.16% revenue share in 2023. It projects the 33 to 50 group to grow at a 10.9% annual rate from 2024 to 2030. These are modelled revenue shares, not a survey of guests.

When glamping guests book

A large share of glamping stays are booked close to arrival. Group Accommodation reports that over 30% of glamping stays in the first quarter, over the past three years, were booked fewer than 14 days ahead. It draws on the Glamping Trends Report, which combines a survey of 1,502 UK adults with five years of booking data.

For an owner, a last-minute booker is someone checking dates on their phone and deciding in one sitting. They need an availability calendar that’s current and a booking step that works on mobile.

What glamping stays cost

Nightly rates vary by unit type, region and season, so a single national average says little about your own pricing. We haven’t found a named, dated UK average nightly rate we can stand behind, so we don’t quote one.

A more useful benchmark is how rates are structured. The booking page for Millie the Hut, a shepherd’s hut and Shack near Presteigne, shows a seasonal rate card with midweek and weekend prices and minimum stays beside the calendar. Guests see the full picture before they enquire.

What the numbers mean for your own website

They point the same way. Guests come from many places, and a large share book close to arrival.

Some guests who find a place on Canopy & Stars, CoolStays or Airbnb may well search for the owner’s own site afterwards. That is our expectation, not a published statistic. It is one reason your own site matters alongside any listing.

Millie the Hut’s site brought 42 direct bookings in its first year, saving the owners over £3,000 in commission. We built it, and you can see the pricing for sites like it.

How to cite these statistics

Cite the publisher, the year and a link, and say whether a figure is measured or forecast. Journalists, lenders and bloggers will check, so make that easy for them.

FAQs

How big is the UK glamping market?

Grand View Research estimates the UK glamping market at US$209.8 million in 2023, forecast to reach US$449.5 million by 2030 (a 10.7% CAGR from 2024). It is a modelled estimate, not a government count. If you quote it, name the publisher, the year of the report and whether the figure is a forecast.

Is there an official count of UK glamping sites?

We haven’t found a single official UK-wide count. Regional datasets exist, such as the Caravaning, Camping and Glamping Sites in Northern Ireland dataset on data.gov.uk, which dates from 2020. For a national picture, you’ll usually rely on market reports and platform data, each with its own definition of glamping.

Published sources point to last-minute booking. Group Accommodation reports that over 30% of glamping stays in the first quarter, over three years, were booked fewer than 14 days ahead. Canopy & Stars also publishes a 2026 market report on the glamping industry, drawing on its own booking data.

Can I use these statistics in a business plan or press piece?

Yes, as long as you credit the publisher and year, link to the original, and say whether a figure is measured or forecast. Don’t mix definitions, such as camping and glamping, or regions, such as Northern Ireland and the whole UK, in one number.
